What They Do

The Crew Chief is the glue of the utility team. They ensure every utility knows their tasks, keep the crew moving as a cohesive unit through load-in and load-out, enforce safety practices, manage breaks, and handle on-site managerial duties. The crew chief interfaces directly with department leads and production management, translating the production's needs into clear, executable tasks for the utility crew — and making sure those tasks get done on time and to spec.

Crew chiefs also coordinate staging elements — riser and deck builds, pipe and drape, truss ground support — and interface with venue labor, house crews, and department leads. For complex scenic, custom fabrication, or large-format structural builds, we coordinate with your production's scenic vendor as part of the overall crew plan.
