Most of New York's building stock was constructed long before anyone designed for in-building wireless. Dense steel framing, poured concrete, masonry, and energy-efficient low-E glass all attenuate cellular signal before it reaches the people inside. Carriers build their networks for outdoor and street-level coverage — they rarely invest in the interior of an individual older building, because the economics of a single site don't justify it. The result is predictable: full bars on the sidewalk, dropped calls and dead data the moment you walk in.
There is no single right answer for indoor coverage — the topology depends on the size of the space, where the signal comes from, and how the building is built. These are the approaches LML deploys.
A signal source feeds a network of passive coaxial cable, splitters, and antennas that distribute coverage through the building without active amplification at each node. Cost-effective for smaller footprints and simpler floor plans where the signal source is strong and cable runs are short.
Signal is converted and carried over fiber or Ethernet to remote units that re-amplify at each antenna point. Scales cleanly across large floorplates and multi-floor buildings where a passive run would lose too much signal over distance.
Self-contained indoor radios originate carrier-grade signal on-site and hand off to the building's backhaul — no donor antenna required. Ideal for brownfield spaces with solid internet but no clean outside signal to capture.
Every indoor system needs a source. Depending on the site, we capture existing outdoor carrier signal with a rooftop donor antenna or originate coverage locally over the building's own internet backhaul, then distribute it inside.
