What They Do

The ENG (Electronic News Gathering) Operator is the roaming camera position: handheld, untethered, and moving through the space while the show is live. This op captures b-roll, audience reactions, cutaways, and supplementary coverage that the locked-position cameras can't reach. The ENG Operator moves discreetly, anticipating moments rather than reacting to them.

Common on conferences, keynotes, galas, and any event where editorial-style coverage is part of the deliverable. The ENG feed integrates into the live switch or the ISO record depending on the show's needs.
