The Record Operator captures the show to file — typically an ISO record of program output, individual camera feeds, or both. Pre-show work includes confirming record format, codec, storage capacity, and folder structure across all record machines. During show, the op monitors active recordings, manages storage, and confirms file integrity at the end of each segment or act.
On broadcast shows, record is often split: a high-quality master record for post-production and a broadcast-quality proxy alongside it. The record op works closely with the EIC and the post team to ensure deliverables meet the specified format and naming conventions before the drives leave the site.
