What They Do

The Engineer in Charge (EIC) leads the video department and is accountable for the integrity of the video output as a whole. The EIC designs signal flow before the show — inputs, routing, distribution, processing, and outputs — confirms every downstream position is operating to spec, and coordinates signal-level troubleshooting across all video positions in real time.

During the show, the EIC serves as the primary point of contact for the A1, producers, and production managers. The EIC directs the rest of the video team so each operator can stay focused on their seat. On larger productions, the EIC is the most senior video role on site and the one the client or PM calls when something needs to change at the system level.
