What They Do

The Video Engineer (V1) is the EIC's primary operational partner within the video village. The V1 owns a specific position — typically switching, camera, or another dedicated seat — and executes it with precision and consistency. When the EIC is managing the room or coordinating with production, the V1 holds down the technical execution at their position.

On smaller shows without a dedicated EIC, the V1 carries both roles: running their seat and overseeing signal flow across the video system. The V1 is expected to troubleshoot independently at their position and escalate only what genuinely requires EIC-level attention.
