Video Engineer / Video Operator

Responsible for a specific position within the video village — typically switching, camera operation, playback, or a similar dedicated seat — and may cover multiple roles depending on the scale and complexity of the show. Executes their assigned position with precision, consistency, and the technical fluency to troubleshoot in real time without interrupting the broadcast or program feed.

What the Role Owns

Responsibilities

  • Assigned Position Execution Owns their seat completely — whether that's switching, camera, playback, graphics, or another video role. Precision and consistency are the baseline expectation.
  • Multi-Role Coverage On smaller shows, may cover more than one position. Adapts to the scope and complexity of the production without dropping execution quality at any seat.
  • Real-Time Troubleshooting Diagnoses and resolves technical issues at their position without interrupting the broadcast or program feed. Escalates to the EIC when needed, but solves what they can independently.
  • EIC Support Works directly under the EIC, takes clear direction, and keeps the EIC informed of any issues at their seat so the EIC can stay focused on the room.
